Looking back over the day to try and figure out what went wrong, I realize that in the midst of my feelings of stress and overwhelm, I forgot to rejoice. Though the Daily Light reading this morning was placed on April 1st just for me, I inwardly scowled and thought, "How, Lord? The load is too heavy, and I have already failed."
I forgot to rejoice in the gifts that He gives daily, and those that He has been giving to me my whole life.
I grasped my 11 year old's hand hours later. "I really messed up today."
She squeezed hard and replied softly, "I forgive you."
So inspired by a post over at one of my favorite blogs, I begin my list of One Thousand Gifts - not gifts that I wish to receive, but those that I have already been given. http://aholyexperience.com/2006/11/gift-list-thousand-things.html
I begin with:
1. Forgiveness, given so readily at the first hint of remorse and sorrow.
And I give thanks to the Father whose patience extends beyond my mess-ups.
