Every January, my husband takes each of the girls on a "new year date" as a chance to reflect on the past year and talk about goals for the new year. They usually go out for a steamer or ice cream and come back excited, with a list of things that they want to focus on or learn for the year. Dh took Lovey (8) on their date this evening to the local coffee shop. Lovey walked in an hour and a half later, beaming and exclaimed, "I'm going to be baptised next Sunday!"
The rest of us were playing a rousing game of Sorry and stopped to squeal and hug the girl. It was so precious to see the joy ooze out of her every pore. Lovey is pure joy anyway, but tonight she was simply shining.
